Neighbor to Neighbor Visitation Program

Our purpose: strengthen and nurture friendships with neighbors and friends living in the Neighborhoods throughout their lives as part of the Willamette View community.

Volunteers come from Willamette View Independent Living and commit to at least one hour per week. Volunteers must be good listeners, interested in meeting and knowing people, be very flexible, be sensitive to the needs and special situations of residents, and able to keep confidences. Overall, our goal is to help residents feel they are still a vital part of WV. Volunteers receive orientation about issues specific to engaging with residents in the licensed care areas including training on HIPAA requirements.

Participants work closely with Life Enrichment and other staff and may choose from a variety of approaches. Some engage in one-on-one visits and/or participate in planned activities such as exercise, bingo, dominos, or art projects. If appropriate, they may accompany residents to events outside the neighborhood or for a meal. Volunteers are assigned to one of the neighborhoods in order to become well acquainted with the residents and develop their relationships. They select their own schedule.
