In this compelling drama, lauded Native American actress Lily Gladstone portrays Jax, a grifter who lovingly cares for her young niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson), whose mother is missing. Jax scours the underside of the Seneca-Cayuga reservation, searching for her sister while also focusing on her niece's hope that she and mother will once again dance together as prize winners at the annual Oklahoma Indian Nations Powwow. The film's unflinching view of current Indigenous people’s lives and the pressures on them earns praise from both Indian and White reviewers and establishes director/co-writer Erica Tremblay as a rising filmmaking talent.
