Robin Williams portrays an unorthodox and wisecracking DJ who shakes up things when he is assigned to the U.S. Armed Services radio station in Vietnam in 1965. He becomes popular with the troops and when off the air, he tries to meet Vietnamese people-- but he runs afoul of middle management. Robin Williams won the best actor Golden Globe Award in 1988 for this role.
