
Mixed Recycling in Blue or Green Bins (in trash locations)
* Newspaper, magazines, mail, plain paper, stationery, and envelopes (window envelopes OK)
* All containers and paper bags must be empty.
* Plastic non-refundable bottles, jugs, jars, tubs rinsed (caps screwed on or in trash or James Recycling). Any height, shape, color; at least 2" x 2" across or 2" diameter.
* Refrigerated Paperboard containers
* Metal cans, lids still attached or lid in trash; foil; pots/pans
*Unusable, small corrugated cardboard boxes and to-go pizza box lids (light grease OK)
Glass Containers Recycling in Separate Bin
- Unbroken empty and clean glass bottles, jugs and jars, any color, size, shape
- No broken glass or light bulbs. Broken glass should be wrapped in two layers of heavy paper for safety and placed in trash bins
- ONLY Bottles, jars and jugs go in glass recycling bins
- Lids and screw caps in trash
Refundable Cans, Plastic and Glass Bottles in Separated, Labeled Bin (may be in different location than trash/recycling room)
- MUST say OR 10ยข on label or top of can
- Rinse containers, drain well. Plastic screw caps OK on plastic bottles
- Do not crush cans. Broken bottles not allowed.
Stretchy Plastic Goes into Yellow Bin
- Only the stretchy kind; non-stretchy plastic goes into trash
- Clean, all colors, bags, wrappers, and mailers
- Cut off all paper labels (scissors provided for convenience)
Corrugated Cardboard Boxes
- Flatten boxes and put in designated area, different in each recycle area
Styrofoam
Recycling is available in labeled bins in the Manor loading dock, Terrace loading dock, Court loading dock and North Pointe garbage and recycling room. Please follow posted guidelines for accepted types of Styrofoam.
Food Scraps
- Compost bins are located at the loading dock areas of the Riverview Kitchen and the White Oak Grill
- No bags allowed in bins - even bags that say "compostable"
- Only food scraps, coffee filters, and tea bags (minus tags)

These Items Cannot be Recycled - Trash ONLY
- All food and drink to-go containers and their lids, including any containers having liquid or solid waste residue (even if labeled "compostable"; plastic package cling wrap or paper coated with wax or plastic; "compostables".
- Plastic clamshell containers (Check with James Recycling contact)
- Boxes from frozen and refrigerated foods
- All single use paper products, new or used, such as facial tissue/paper towels/paper napkins/diapers
- Bags from inside cereal, cracker or other boxes
- Loose lids from metal cans
- Anything with food residue in or on it
- Food of any kind
- Plastic forks, spoons and knives
- Paper plates and coffee cups
- Pizza boxes: even if they are unused, they cannot be repurposed
- Plastic package wrap or plastic bags that are not stretchy
- Bubble wrap mailers that have paper attached (or cut off the label and recycle with plastic bags)
- Wrapping paper, tissue paper or greeting cards with glitter on them
- Molded plastic from packaging
- Plastic bottles that hold less than 6 oz.
- Cash register receipts
- Shredded paper- place in the secure bin in your building OR put in stapled closed bag in trash; do not put loose shredded paper in the garbage/trash bins
Paper wrapper from paper reams (these are treated with flame retardant)
Broken Glass and Light Bulbs
LED & compact fluorescent light bulbs go in the marked container on the shelf; Long fluorescent bulbs go on the shelf by the LED container
See Glass Recycling section: Remember, place broken glass and all unbroken glass other than bottles and jars in a sealed paper bag (or wrapped twice in heavy paper) and deposit in the large trash containers in North Pointe and Court and in small containers in Manor, Plaza, and Terrace.
Be a responsible recycler. It's better to have something recyclable in the trash than trash in recycling.
When in doubt, throw it out!
