When and How to Use Your Get-Out-of-Bed Bags

The Get-Out-of-Bed Bag (red or yellow) was given to you when you moved into Willamette View by you SERV greeter. It contains an emergency contact card and a whistle. You will add hard-soled shoes, extra eyeglasses, headlamp or flashlight, and a completed emergency form.

This is the bag you will use when an emergency occurs during the night. Its contents will help keep you safe moving around your residence.

Creating your Get-Out-of-Town Bag

You will create your Get-Out-of-Town Bag using a backpack or wheeled carry-on bag. It contains what you would need in an evacuation. If there is an evacuation, leave when instructed, and follow directions!  Include in this bag:

☐ Change of clothes, sleepwear 

☐ Jacket appropriate for weather

☐ Personal hygiene items

☐ Basic first aid kit, N-95 mask

☐ Important papers/copies on a flash drive

☐ Batteries/power packs cards, etc. for devices

☐ 2-3 bottles of water

☐ Emergency snacks

☐ Pet supplies 

Add at last minute:

 ☐ Home and car keys 

☐ Medications 

☐ Wallet

☐ Electronic devices flash drive

Add other items that you consider important but remember that you will carry your own bag. Pack light and take only what you need. Assume you may be out of your residence for several days.
