Is our western diet killing us?

The Wellness department and OHSU bringing this talk to Willamette View

The current "western diet" which is consumed by the majority of US the population is known to be increasing inflammatory changes in the entire body.  The discussion will focus on what we can do to balance these changes. A diet designed to decrease inflammation can offer numerous health benefits, particularly by incorporating whole grains such as brown rice, quinoa, and oats as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. These food items are rich in fiber and generally do not contain processed foods. These foods promote a healthy microbiome by fostering the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. A balanced microbiome (gut bacteria) can help regulate immune responses and reduce chronic inflammation, leading to improved overall health and a lower risk of diseases associated with inflammation, such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, obesity, and cancer. Furthermore, whole grains are packed with antioxidants and nutrients that support the body's natural anti-inflammatory processes. Methods to approach an anti-inflammatory will be reviewed and explained.
