This romantic comedy sports film is partly based on the minor-league baseball experiences of its writer and director Ron Shelton, depicting the players and fans of the Durham Bulls of North Carolina. It stars Kevin Costner as a veteran catcher brought in to coach a rookie pitcher, played by Tim Robbins. Both of them become involved with a baseball groupie, Susan Sarandon, who has her own perspective on the game.
