Ali plays the role of Don Shirley, a world-class African American pianist and composer, who along with his tough-talking Italian American driver and bodyguard (Viggo Mortensen), embarks on a concert tour of the Deep South in 1962. Despite their differences, the two men develop a bond while confronting racism and danger.
