Maudie (played by Sally Hawkins) is a Nova Scotia woman who has rheumatoid arthritis and is often mistaken as stupid and incapable. She takes a job as a housekeeper where, to keep happy, she begins to paint bright beautiful pictures of how she wants to see the world.
