This star-studded British film is based on a delightful novel by E M Forster. It follows a proper young girl (Helen Bonham-Carter) traveling to Italy with her dotty cousin (Maggie Smith). First inklings of romance and passion greet the girl at every turn as her suffocating life awakens. Judi Dench, Julian Sands and Daniel Day Lewis round out the cast. James Ivory directs. Maggie Smith won the Best Actress in a Leading Role and Judi Dench Best Supporting Actress from BAFTA.
