Council Chair

Area of Focus

The Resident Council Chair is the top elected officer of the Council with overall responsibility for Council policies, practices, and communication to residents. Serves as the chief liaison to Willamette View Administration.

Council Responsibilities

  • Attend all Council and Association meetings.
  • Serve as a resource in terms of policies and procedures related to Willamette View Administration and the Council.
  • Serve as an advocate, and when requested, gain Council approval or support.
  • Serve as a facilitator and assist in any leadership and organizational issues that may arise.
  • Report to the Council on accomplishments, concerns, or new information within the assigned position.
  • Participate fully in Council discussions and decisions on issues of concern and interest to the community.
  • Be open to resident feedback.

Specific Position Responsibilities

  • Works with other Officers to develop meeting agendas.
  • Anticipate evolving needs and interests of residents.
  • Serve on the Willamette View Board of Directors and assigned committee sharing news of resident activities and concerns of residents through a written report at each Board meeting.
  • Meet regularly with senior Administrators.
  • Serve on assigned Council Standing Committees as a non-voting member and liaison to Council.
  • Periodically review the Resident Handbook and Residents Association Constitution to ensure accuracy and relevance to current resident life.
  • Represent Willamette View at special occasions, both within and outside Willamette View.
  • Carry out or delegate such additional duties as may be specified in the Willamette View Association Constitution, the Standing Rules or as agreed upon by the council.
  • Conduct orientation for new council members.
  • Participate in new resident orientation programs.
  • Work to solve problems brought to the council; give opportunities for all councilors to contribute to discussions and solve issues in a cooperative manner.
